Leaving the Coromandel peninsula and Whitianga having enjoyed a novel “Wuffing”and creative interlude with Dave & Debbie at “Eggsentric” (highly recommended venue”, we travelled over to the west coast. We were kindly invited to stay by a friend of Lynn’s, called Raewin and her partener Mehaker in their new house in Raglan.

The four days of our stay flew by in the blink of an eye as they were wonderfuly interesting and stimulating hosts. Then on to Waitomo having suffered the proclivities of a particularly underwhelming driver in the interpersonal skills department.
Subsequently we arrived in Rotorua for a two night stay at “Cactus Jacks”. Leaving on the 07-02-14 we arrived at lake Taupo for a one night stay, as a precursor to travelling over to the east coast and Napier.

Napier captures the twenties and thirties, it's elegance and architecture?

Napier, I found to be utterly beguiling. I had wanted to visit for some time, as here, a result of some seismic activity in 1931, large parts of the town were rebuilt in “Art Deco” style.

This seemed to galvanize the population into sustaining the ambiance of that period with fashion, both sartorial and automotive, that has helped the town economicaly by a burgeoning tourist trade.

Just beautiful.!

15.02.14 Came to Tongariro national park, sight if the eponymous, “Mount Doom”or more accurately Mnt.Ngauruhoe 2287m along with My.Tongariro and Mt.Ruapehu 2797m.

18.02.14  Arrived Wellington. Such a great location for the Capital City. Sheltered harbour, unhurried commercial environment and a great “jump off” point for the ferry to South Island.

New Zealanders just love the water.

New Zealanders just love the water.

New Zealanders do seem to have the predisposition to strip down and jump/dive into the harbour, for no apparent reason other than the sheer hell of it.

25.02.14  Caught the ferry over The Cooke straight to Picton and the South Island.
