We engaged in a long and protracted coach journey down to Ho Chi Minh City and we were quite gratified to find that it was not entirely unpleasant. What was unpleasant were some of the traps set by a very resourceful fighting force for unwary American and Australian soldiers  lured into an ambush.

One’s wife, with an AK 47 in her hands, is certainly a daunting prospect. More seriously one can only stand in awe of a people so resourceful that they changed the course of their own history. Hopefully, they will now do something much more constructive, consistent with the gains they made. Ho Chi Minh is  a cosmopolitan outward looking city, seeking investment and dynamism. One can see that the infra-structure isn’t all that it could be. But, they want it so bad, one feels sure that they will  get there.
